Abstract

We are living in the era where data is abundance, easy to acquire, and available in many type or format.

As technology grows and people face novel issues, data becomes more important to reveal new solutions. However, most of us rarely consider about the uncertainty of data.

It is important to understand that data cannot be taken for granted. We need to evaluate the source, acquisition methodology, the tools, etc. In this seminar I will introduce the category of uncertainty, the method to handle and manage the uncertainty, and how to optimize the visualization of uncertainty.

Currently, data is always related to location. More than 80% of data contains location information, especially for geospatial data type. Geospatial data type is powerful in unfolding pattern that unseen with human eyes. In this seminar I will also introduce how the uncertainty propagate, and some mistakes in geospatial visualization that increase the uncertainty.
